Why Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice?

One of the most common misconceptions about hospice is that hospice is a place where people go to die. Hospice is not a place, it is a philosophy of care, a program offering services to the terminally ill patients and their families. These Hospice services are provided to  patients in any place of residence that they call home.Hospice focuses on care, not cure. According to The American Cancer Society, the word hospice is “rooted in the centuries-old idea of offering a place of shelter and rest, or ‘hospitality’ to weary and sick travelers on a long journey. Dame Cicely Saunders at St. Christopher’s Hospice in London first applied the term ‘hospice’ to specialized care for dying patients in 1967.”

What services are provided?

The Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice was designed with the goal to support the establishment of a comprehensive system of care for cancer patients in Belize. However, in serving the Southern region Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice, to the extent possible, will care for other non cancer patients who are terminally ill. Services at the Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice uses an interdisciplinary approach, and will be structured according to your needs, which may change over time. The Hospice Association of America (HAA) suggests a hospice team may include any combination of the following services.

Witnessing the long, painful bus journeys my dad took to reach treatment for his prostate cancer and his discomfort when returning was severely challenging. Eventually, my father stayed in North Virginia to access hospice care. There, at Capital Hospice, he made his dying wish: To establish hospice care in Belize, so that others would not suffer the way he did. That was when I committed to fulfil his wish  by helping those with terminal illnesses to spend their last days in the comfort and security of familiar surroundings.  Named in honor of my late father, Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice and Home Care is the culmination of my dream. Here, we believe in living life to the fullest, even if your days are limited. We attend to our patients’ physical, social and spiritual needs while helping their family members cope with their passage.

Our philosophy is simple- We’re Family. We are here in your time of need. If you are considering Edlin Leslie Hospice, Home Care, or any hospice care, I invite you to e-mail us at [email protected] or call or WhatApp at 626-940-7879.
