Dr. Betty Ferrell, RN, PhD, MA, FAAN, FPCN, CHPN

Palliative and Hospice Care Consultant, Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice

Dr. Ferrell has 33 years of experience in oncology nursing, specialising in pain management, quality of life, and palliative care. She has over 300 publications in peerreviewed journals and texts. She acts as Principal Investigator for both the Palliative Care for Quality of Life and Symptom Concerns in Lung Cancer program, funded by the National Cancer Institute, and the EndofLife Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) project. Dr. Ferrell is a member of the National Cancer Policy Forum and was Chairperson of the National Consensus Project for Quality Palliative Care. She served on the National Quality Forum Committee for Preferred Practices in Palliative Care. She is also the chairperson of the Southern California Cancer Pain Initiative. Dr. Ferrell has authored eight books – Cancer Pain Management (1995), Suffering (1995), Pain in the Elderly (1996), Textbook of Palliative Nursing Care (3rd ed. 2010, Oxford University Press). She is coauthor of The Nature of Suffering and the Goals of Nursing (2008, OUP) and Making Health Care Whole: Integrating Spirituality into Patient Care (2010, Templeton Press). Dr. Ferrell completed a master’s degree in Theology, Ethics and Culture from Claremont Graduate University in 2007.

Dr. Ellsworth Grant, MD Primary Medical Consultant, Edlin Leslie Sr. Hospice and Home Care Ellsworth Grant cofounded the Belize Cancer Center in Dangriga (BCCD) with Dellone Pascascio. He is a Dangriga native and attended Methodist Primary School (now Epworth Methodist Primary School). After one year at Ecumenical High School, he moved to Los Angeles and graduated from the San Diego School of Medicine, University of California. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, L.A. and Hematology/Oncology fellowship training at the City of Hope National Cancer Center. Dr. Grant is board certified in hematology and oncology and currently in private practice in Los Angeles
